Halifax, Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg, Blue Rocks are among some of the pretty places in Nova Scotia you won’t want to miss. In Halifax a walk along the Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk (Harbourfront) is refreshing and calming. You will spot Theodore Too (the tugboat) and it took my breath away. I felt like I was watching TV with my kids all over again! Alexander Keith’s Brewery (Lower Water St./Bishop St.), and The Halifax Citadel (Ahern Ave.), a tour is recommended of both.

The harbor has a lot of sights to offer especially the two bridges spanning it. The Angus L Macdonald Bridge and the A. Murray Mackay Bridge both towering over “The Narrows” of The Bedford Basin. However, the natural beauty of Nova Scotia lies in its little coastal villages. Peggy’s Cove (26 miles/43 kms) west, was our first stop and wow, it was beautiful!!! To see more pictures, click here.

A tiny fishing village with a wonderful restaurant “Sou’Wester” that is open all year round. Seafood is excellent here and I would recommend the baked stuffed lobster tail and the Fish and Chips. You can walk around the Cove clicking pictures to your heart’s content with the many colorful little houses and inlets offering beautiful backdrops. The lighthouse itself standing aloof on the rocks, stunning! A little past Peggy’s cove is the memorial for Swissair Flight 111 that crashed 5 miles (8 kms) off the shore. A humbling reminder of how fragile we are!

Route 103 heading west will get you to the county of Lunenburg and the tiny community of Blue Rocks. At Blue Rocks you have some very picturesque views of the rugged coastline and local area. You can ‘ocean’ kayak here as well. There is a very peculiar yellow grass/weed that grows on the rocks in the ocean and can be seen at high and low tides. To see more pictures, click here.

The port town of Lunenburg has a sensational Harbor and the best place to view and photograph it entirely is from across the harbor on Tannery or Cove Rd..

The buildings are rustic and colorful, the people friendly and the atmosphere pleasant. There are a lot of small hotels, souvenir shops and restaurants.

TIPS
- Shops shut early, make your souvenir purchases first then visit the bars and restaurants.
- Would recommend drinking bottled water.
- Lots of pretty spots along the routes out of Halifax, keep an eye out so you can stop and click pictures.
- When departing from the airport, security check-in takes a lot of time, factor that in.
