Costa Rica

High in the mountains, San José to Playa Flamingo

From the safety warnings given to us by our car rental company, we were wary right from the start. We stayed in a gated boutique-hotel inside of a gated community, which made us even more wary. We stayed there only for a night so, had no bad experiences or tips to offer other than not to leave anything valuable inside your vehicle, especially visible.

We drove from San José to Playa Flamingo on the West Coast (171 miles/275 kms, 4 hrs via rt.21). Within an hour we were high in the mountains enveloped in clouds. The drive is good, single lane, keep to the speed limit, drive alert and smart.
