Sky Adventures

Zip lining, Canyoning, Rappelling, Bicycling and many more fun extreme sports are offered along with a gentle ride in a cable car. You can see the elusive cloud covered Arenal volcano, better by using the Sky Tram. Sky Adventures is a family owned business and offers a variety of activities. It is located on the other side of the volcano from the town of La Fortuna, 13.5 miles (approx. 22kms).

Sky Tram

The Sky Tram is a cable car that seats 6 and an expert Costa Rican guide. It takes you to a platform located 1250 mts high that offers a clear view of the volcano although at times it is shrouded in clouds. On the way up, the breath-taking view of lake Arenal is a sight to cherish. The highest cable along the way is 200 mts (656 feet) and offers a panoramic view of the wonderful rainforest below. Zip Lining

There is a short trail for exploring the rainforest on foot at the platform site. Coming back down, you could choose the gentle tram ride or the adventurous route, zip lining at top speed (Sky Trek) the longest cable being 760 mts (2493 feet) long. There are 7 zip lines. Sky Walk

They also offer Sky Walks (hanging bridges), Sky Wild (bicycling alongside the lake), Sky River Drift (rafting)  Sky Limit (a combination of zip lining, canyoning, rappelling, Tarzan swing etc.) and have a herpetarium containing more than 50 species of reptiles and amphibians.

If you have your own conveyance, it is better to drive here and book tickets at the entrance. No fuss, very easy. If you do not have wheels, it is good to book a tour online as you will be picked up and dropped off at your hotel.

You should also consider visiting Playa Flamingo and Brasilito, Limon and Playa Negra.

TIPS:

  • If you do not go on the guided tour, you will have more time to do your own stuff. The tours are rushed.
  • Take water.
  • Check the weather, if it is raining, try to do the trip when its not.
  • It is a one day outing if you want to enjoy the visit.
  • Wear hiking/running shoes.
